How to Reduce Body Odour: Skin, Clothes and a Routine That Works

Body odour is not simply a hygiene problem. Sweat itself has little smell. Unpleasant odour develops when bacteria on the skin and in clothing break down components of sweat into volatile, odorous molecules.

Reducing body odour therefore requires more than covering it with fragrance. The most effective routine addresses both the underarm skin and the clothes that repeatedly come into contact with it.

1. Clean the underarms effectively

Water alone may remove fresh sweat but leave behind oils, product residue and bacteria.

Wash the underarms thoroughly, paying attention to the folds of the skin and the roots of underarm hair. Rinse well and dry completely before applying an anti-odorant.

Aggressive scrubbing is unnecessary. It can irritate the skin without solving the microbial cause of odour.

SALSOAP® can be used as the cleansing step in the ZINDEO routine. Its concentrated salt-based formula helps clean the underarm area without added perfume.

2. Apply anti-odorant in the evening

ZINDEO products are designed to be used in the evening on clean, dry skin. This gives the routine time to work while the body is resting and sweating is usually lower.

With Reset Set MAX:

  • wash the underarms with SALSOAP®,

  • dry the skin thoroughly,

  • apply the Anti-odorant Roll-On,

  • allow it to dry,

  • apply a small amount of Anti-odorant Cream.

The cream is the strongest step in the routine and only a small amount is needed.

Once body odour is under control, many long-term users find that they do not need to apply ZINDEO every day. Missing one, two or even three days does not necessarily mean that the odour will immediately return.

3. Do not ignore your clothes

Sometimes the odour is no longer coming primarily from the skin. It is coming from the fabric.

Bacteria and odorous compounds can remain in the underarm area of clothing after an ordinary wash. When the garment becomes warm and damp again, the smell may return quickly—even when both the body and the shirt seemed clean.

Synthetic fabrics, particularly polyester, tend to retain body odour more strongly than cotton. Certain odour-producing bacteria grow particularly well on polyester fibres.

If a shirt repeatedly develops the same smell:

  • pre-treat the underarm area before washing,

  • wash it at the highest temperature permitted by the care label,

  • do not leave damp laundry sitting in the washing machine,

  • allow clothing to dry completely,

  • replace garments that remain permanently affected.

ZINDEO Laundry Soap can be rubbed directly into the damp underarm area of the garment before washing.

4. Choose breathable clothing

Tight clothing and synthetic fabrics trap heat and moisture close to the skin. This creates better conditions for bacteria to multiply and produce odour.

Cotton, linen and merino wool often manage moisture and odour better than conventional polyester. For sport, choose technical fabrics specifically designed for odour management and wash them soon after use.

Changing the fabric touching the underarms can sometimes make a greater difference than applying more deodorant.

5. Understand stress-related odour

Stress sweat can become noticeable more quickly than sweat caused by heat.

Heat and exercise primarily activate eccrine sweat glands, which release mostly water and salts. Emotional stress also activates apocrine glands in the underarms. Their secretions contain more lipids and proteins that bacteria can transform into odorous compounds.

This is why body odour may suddenly seem stronger during an interview, presentation, exam or stressful journey.

A consistent evening routine is more reliable than waiting until the stressful moment and trying to cover the smell with fragrance.

6. Do not keep layering products

Applying more deodorant over sweat, old product and bacteria rarely solves the problem. It can create a mixture of fragrance and body odour while adding more residue to the skin and clothing.

Clean the area first. Dry it completely. Then apply a small, even amount of anti-odorant.

More product does not automatically mean better odour control.

7. Treat sweating and body odour as separate problems

Heavy sweating does not always cause strong body odour, and strong body odour does not always mean that a person sweats excessively.

ZINDEO is an anti-odorant. It is designed to control odour without using antiperspirant aluminium salts to block sweat.

If excessive sweating itself is the main problem, or if your body odour changes suddenly without an obvious reason, consult a healthcare professional. A cosmetic product cannot diagnose or treat an underlying medical condition.

Odour control without blocking sweat

ZINDEO Anti-odorant Cream was evaluated in a split-underarm study in which one underarm was treated and the other remained untreated.

The treated underarm showed:

  • 92% lower odour intensity after 24 hours,

  • significant odour reduction after 48 hours,

  • a measurable effect lasting up to 72 hours after one application.

Persistent body odour is rarely solved by perfume alone. Clean skin, clean clothing and a consistent anti-odour routine address the places where the smell is actually being created.
